  • Sixteen years experience as a freelance strategic marketing planning and information consultant (previously ten years as an employee).

Achievements and employers:

1987 - Strategic marketing planning and information consultant Significant strategic marketing planning, customer management (including Key Account Management) and information consultancy projects with over 50 large companies and organisations in 17 different countries.

  • Completed either as team leader / facilitator or team member
  • Regularly re-commissioned to re-invigorate processes introduced as part of the original consultancy
  • Major projects implemented from board to shop floor
  • Sector experience: oil, publishing, financial services, manufacturing, public services, construction, retail and wholesale distribution

1978-1987 Business Information and Research Librarian

1986-1987. Senior Librarian: Research. Essex Libraries. Managed Research Department (five staff) and its research projects. Developed statistical analysis procedures and contributed to strategic planning and marketing. Managed the MIS on mainframe and PCs 1982-1986. Assistant Reference Librarian, Norwich Central Library.  Led, extended and marketed business information service provision.  Pioneered, and implemented the results of, user surveys   1978-1982. Assistant Librarian, Northumberland County Library Selected materials for reference library, answered reference enquiries from the public

In addition to my main self employment I teach on the UEA MBA programme  - organisational change, consultancy skills.    Currently developing the Norwich Management Development Centre (NMDC) for UEA (www.nmdc.uea.ac.uk)

In 2001 I was a driving force behind the establishment of the East of England Network for Interactive Marketing (www.eenim.org.uk) and generated sponsorship from Norwich Union, Royal Mail, Archant (formerly Eastern Counties Newspaper Group), Bounty SCA and the Institute of Direct Marketing and support funding-in-kind from UEA.  This is now an excellent forum that has attracted key marketing people into the East of England including Professor Malcolm McDonald, Professor Merlin Stone and Jason Porter from Friends Reunited.
